being a handwritten and printed “Request for Pardon”, being on a folded sheet of thin paper measuring approx. 9 ¾” x 16” (9 ¾” x 8” when folded) with the back section of the folded page being mostly blank except for “5 Aug 1861 Pardon” handwritten in pencil in one corner. The front section having the document, stating; (printed) “I hereby authorize and direct the Secretary of State affix the Seal of the United States to (then handwritten) a Warrant for the pardon of James B. Jenkins (then printed) dated this day and signed by me and for so doing this shall be his warrant”, Then signed by “Abraham Lincoln”, then printed “Washington”, then handwritten “5th August, 1861.” NOTE: This document has been authenticated by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
